What to expect from an appointment
Here you’ll find practical information to help you prepare for your appointment and understand what to expect during your assessment.
Booking and preparation
Once you have booked an appointment (online or by phone), you will receive an email confirmation with details including the location, date, time, and what to bring with you.
If you have been prescribed specific medication for your dizziness or vertigo, it is best NOT to take it on the day of your appointment. All of your other usual medications are fine to take. Please bring a list of your medications with you, and be prepared to share any relevant medical history with the clinician.
Reminders and cancellations
You will receive a reminder text the day before your appointment.
If you need to cancel your appointment, please do so within 24 hours of your appointment as we usually have a wait list. If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment, you may be charged a $50 cancellation fee.
Arrival and timing
Please arrive a few minutes early to complete a patient consent form.
While we do our best to run on time, vestibular assessments can occasionally take longer than expected. Thank you for your patience if your clinician is running slightly behind, or if your appointment extends a little beyond the scheduled time.
Appointment length & assessment
Initial appointments are always scheduled for one hour. This allows enough time to get a full history, do a comprehensive assessment, and provide treatment if needed.
Education & next steps
We are big on education so you will leave with an overview of our findings, information about the diagnosis, ways you can manage your condition (such as exercises or lifestyle changes) and a plan for ongoing care if needed.
How people feel after an appointment
Most people feel well after an appointment, often better than when they arrived.
A small percentage of people may feel worse after an appointment. Vomiting can occur during treatment but this is not common. If you would like to bring someone with you to assist with driving home, please feel free.
We are very open to having family members or support people in the appointment with you. This is also helpful if you have any memory problems which may affect your ability to provide an adequate history about your symptoms.
